Operating Company Controller

 Essential Functions:

  • Oversee and provide leadership to logistics, warehouse, and distribution operations in a scaling company with an energetic and creative atmosphere.
  • Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to intercompany transactions, fixed assets, general ledger, taxes, and treasury reporting
  • Assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvements
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested
  • Supervise and/or manage general ledger accounting functions
  • Assist with the development of staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
  • Assist with year-end financial audit activities and the annual corporate financial controls audit
  • Work with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end
  • Backfill other accounting roles duties/responsibilities when necessary
  • Handle the company's banking transactions and debts payments
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts
  • Lead the month end close process
  • Prepare tax and other regulatory filings
  • Prepare and record journal entries
  • Perform customer credit reviews
  • Participate in managing banking relationships and bank account maintenance
  • Prepare daily liquidity report
  • Lead team and manage/assess performance in areas that include accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, payroll, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Oversee and participate in the monthly closing process, including completion of monthly GL account reconciliations.
  • Take the lead role in preparation for the year end audit and tax returns.
  • Prepare and assess required financial reports, including contribution to the preparation of the monthly Board book.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of appropriate internal controls over financial reporting. 
  • Lead team in identification of process improvements and enhancements; develop a processing “center of excellence” for FreshEdge.
  • Provide meaningful interpretation and analysis of financial data to applicable operational managers.
  • Facilitate and compile the annual company budget.
  • Participate in the company strategic planning process.
  • Perform required tax administration and government reporting, in coordination with the Vice President and General Counsel.
  • Assist with due diligence on acquisitions; lead financial integration of newly acquired businesses, in coordination with the Vice President of Integration and Project Management and the Vice President and General Counsel.

 Competencies, Education, and Experience:

  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and at least 5 years of successful experience in public or corporate accounting performing most of the above duties.
  • Knowledge and experience in accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and experience with accounting ERP systems and accounting software (e.g. Produce Pro)

  Physical Demands:

  • Stand or sit for long periods of time
